Where Rainbows Meet

Join the Movement to Uplift Muizenberg and the Cape Flats with Where Rainbows Meet and Dr. Philafel

As the ancient ones knew, the soil is the foundation of life. It is the matrix that nurtures the roots of all living things. But in these times, the soil has been neglected, depleted, and poisoned. It is up to us to heal and restore it, to give back to the earth what we have taken. And so, with our hands in the soil, we join forces to create a garden that will not only feed the body, but also inspire the mind and uplift the spirit..

Our goal is to create a sustainable system of food production that benefits the community. We want to empower members of both communities to take ownership of their environmental impact, reduce their carbon footprint, and contribute to a more sustainable future

Our Journey to Creating Sustainable Community Gardens

n the dark times we find ourselves in, when the land has been depleted and the community struggles, a spark of hope can make all the difference. And so it was when Dr. Philafel's founder, Chad Cupido, reached out to Where Rainbows Meet in February 2023 to establish an opportunity to develop a soil business model using their garden. The call to action was urgent, the need to restore and heal the earth, and those who tend to it, palpable.

Upon inspection of the garden, Chad and Codi were shocked to see the state of the soil and the garden, and felt it was a calling to initiate the process of greening the Where Rainbows Meet garden.

It was a journey of many steps, from the establishment of an MOU (as Dr. Philafel, via its project Gro-a-garden, and Where Rainbows Meet), to the outpouring of generosity from the Cape Town and Muizenberg community, family, and friends. In these times of crisis, the community came together to support the vision of a sustainable garden, a space of healing and growth.

Join us in making a difference in our community.

Moddǀʼa ka, ǁ’as ǃkena tsîdi ǀha gû se o, gami gwa tsî re ǁ’ôi ro khoisan qhe’a ta tsî !

(Translation: Greetings, let us stand together as one in this moment, for the wisdom of the Khoisan speaks to us all.)

Greetings, fellow travelers of this earthly realm. The world is facing great challenges, and our community of Vrygrond is no exception. Poverty, unemployment, and a lack of access to basic resources such as water are among the many issues that we face. But in times of crisis, we must come together as one and find solutions that benefit all.

That is why we are proud to announce our partnership between Dr. Philafel's Gro-a-Garden and Where Rainbows Meet. Together, we are working towards creating a sustainable garden that will not only provide fresh, healthy produce for the community but also empower and educate our youth in the art of gardening and permaculture. We believe that by working together, we can create positive change and build a brighter future for all.

We invite you to join us on this journey. Whether you donate goods, tools, or your time, your contributions will make a difference. Let us embody the spirit of Ubuntu, the spirit of compassion and humanity towards one another. Let us come together as one, and build a garden that nurtures both the soil and the soul.

PROJECT UPDATES

WRM Day 1 by Tumelo Ncube

Our Impact on the Community

As of March 2023, the garden has been transformed into a thriving oasis. Chad and Codi have enlisted the help of two additional project staff and work closely with Kyle Cupido and WRM founder Mymoena Scholtz, along with other passionate volunteers. The team's hard work has paid off, as they diligently tended to the rotting compost matter, converting it into fertile and rich compost. The team then turned the entire ground, infusing the soil with the compost, and treating it with utmost care.

Thanks to generous donations from supporters in Cape Town and Muizenberg, including wood chips and hemp bags, along with loads of inputs, seedlings, seeds, plants, and even a herbal garden from Herbal Healers Farmacy, the garden is now brimming with life. Dozens of volunteers have visited the garden since its transformation, and more are scheduled to visit. Together, we are cultivating a community of care, rooted in the principles of Ubuntu.

Our Partnership

Our partnership with Where Rainbows Meet is focused on creating a sustainable cycle of food by turning organic waste into soil that can feed thousands of people in the community. We partner with local businesses and restaurants to create a sustainable system of food production and waste reduction that benefits the community's health and wellbeing.
